attic insulation, which is also known as expanding foam or polyurethane foam, is an energy-efficient home improvement solution. Its primary benefit is that it provides a tight air seal around the building envelope, which makes your furnace and AC work much less hard to keep your home at a comfortable temperature.
Retrofits and Renovations with Green Earth Spray Foam Insulation
Using low-GWP blowing agents in your spray foam insulation is an important step to make the product more sustainable. The standard hydrofluorocarbons used as blowing agents in most spray insulation products have a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 3,400, which is 3,400 times more potent than carbon dioxide on a per kilo basis.
Many manufacturers have begun to use lower GWP blowing agents, which help reduce the product’s overall environmental impact. These newer blowing agents are made from non-ozone depleting substances, which are considered to have a lower environmental impact than HFCs. Green Earth Service of Huntsville uses an environmentally friendly HFO blowing agent called Ecomate, which is based on naturally occurring methyl methanoate.
Professionally installed spray foam insulation provides the best results, especially when it comes to achieving consistent coverage and proper expansion. Additionally, spray foam insulation installers are required to follow strict safety protocols when applying the product. Incorrect installation can result in dangerous chemical off-gassing, which can cause respiratory issues and damage to the structure of your home.
